Mr. Jenks. CLTV and Social Studies teacher.
On a cold November morning, I walked to room 718, Mr. Jenks’s room, and knocked on the door and entered a big classroom. His classroom is full of maps, camera equipment and a lot of students. Something that stood out to me is that all of the students in his class were all in a happy mood and looked very excited to learn for the day, which is something I rarely see in any classes. We then went outside and this is how the interview went.
What are some hobbies that you have outside of school?
I enjoy hiking. I used to do a lot of backpacking and camping but not as much as I used to.
What is your dream travel destination?
I would love to visit Taiwan.
Now to the serious questions: What is the job of a teacher?
To make a difference in the lives of the students.
What are your views on Lawrence?
I love it so much that I am willing to drive 30 minutes everyday to come teach.
Off of these questions alone you can really see the character of Mr. Jenks. You can clearly see that he doesn’t just come to Lawrence to teach but to impact the lives of the students in a positive manner.
What are your plans for the future here at Lawrence?
Students should be able to go on their phones-Just kidding! In all seriousness, I’d like to see more snack and food options for the students.
And finally, what is your biggest contribution to Lawrence?
For now, CLTV.
How has COVID affected your job?
It made it hard to connect with students because they were hiding behind their masks and screens.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Nope, that's all.
If you are a student interested in CLTV or have Social Studies next year with Mr. Jenks, just know that you are in for a real treat. Mr. Jenks is one of the most well respected teachers in the entire school and you can easily tell why in this interview. Mr. Jenks goes above and beyond with everything he does and makes sure to leave an impression with the students he has. He is a prime example of what every teacher should be doing. Have you had Mr. Jenks before? If so, what was your experience with him?
