“3…2…1…” Many crowded near the stage as the announcer counted down for the arrival of fireworks. Although it wasn’t expected when they heard pops from behind them. Suddenly, they all turn and view the fireworks high in the sky. A beautiful sight to finalize the night. In honor of those affected by Leukemia & Lymphoma, Light The Night is a way for a community to gather and raise money for research, and to support patients and their families. Light the Night Festival was held at the College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas from 5pm to 8:30pm. Many of the college students attending CSN participated in the walk, along with people of all ages.
Multiple activities were performed from 5pm to 7pm.A blood drive was held, allowing you to donate blood on campus. An opening ceremony for the walk began at the end of these activities. Donations weren’t only just accepted at Light the Night Festival, online donations are always accepted for those who hadn’t attended this event. By visiting https://donate.lls.org/ltn/donate everyone is welcome to donate to Leukemia and Lymphoma blood cancers research and support. Light the Night Walks continue worldwide. All locations of these future events are available on their website.
When preparing for the walk, people were handed lanterns and gathered in a crowded line. Soon, the head of the crowd began leading the walk around the campus and was followed by everyone. Through patches of darkness in the walk, the red and yellow lights of the lanterns glowed and were eventually the only thing visible. It was a beautiful sight as people walked around the campus sparkling with lanterns trailing them. All with a purpose of bringing light to the darkness of cancer.
To finalize this night, a firework show was expected. At the end of the walk, opportunities to check out food trucks nearby were given but people mainly gathered around a stage, just a few minutes from the show starting. Soon, unexpected sounds were heard from behind them, and as they turned, only to realize it was the beginning of the fireworks but the end of the Light the Night Festival.
