The countries Israel and Palestine are currently in a war. These countries have been at war for centuries over the ownership of a piece of land known as the Gaza Strip. At the start of the war, Palestine's terrorist group Hamas began attacking Israel's civilians. They killed thousands of innocent Israeli people and even harmed foreigners.
The very start of this began back in the 1900s once Israel won land which was the Gaza Strip, due to the fact the Gaza Strip is very close to both states. They have been fighting on and off for this piece of land ever since. Today, due to the terrorist attacks on Israel their military has begun attacking Palestines civilians in response. On record they’ve been found to have killed 11,000 Palestine civilians just through the dates of October 7th and November 13th. They’re known to have started hurting Palestinians as they are trying to lure Hamas out and get rid of the terrorist group.
We interviewed 2 history teachers here at ljhs to get their insight on the war, here’s what they had to say about it. The first question asked was, “How do you feel about the Israel and Palestine conflict?” Ms. Anestasi, “It's a hard one to take sides on. Both sides have things they’re fighting for, like the end of World War 2 1948, there's a very rough history between both sides and it comes down to the choices each side makes on how to fight the war and the brutality of it is where the problem lies and neither side is innocent. It’s one of those things I don’t necessarily have an opinion on.” Ms. Anestasi and Mr. Hamlin gave us their insight on the war as well as the history they both know about it.
Interview with Ms. Anestasi
Many people have lost family due to this war unfortunately as well as many civilians in both Palestine and Israel are seeking safety. The US has been considering getting involved to help stop the war if this continues on like it is.
